Keely started Pilates in 1987 at the Alan Herdman Studio in London to compliment her contemporary dance training and she continued classes throughout her dance career. During this time she toured both nationally and internationally and was also part of a teaching team taking dance and theatre workshops into schools and colleges.
As a teenager she loved participating in sport and she moved naturally into the fitness industry, working as a personal trainer and group coach, she also re-joined some sporting pursuits, which included fitness competitions, distance running and rowing.
After a few years of hard physical training without Pilates, Keely found her body needed more balance and soon found her way back to regular Pilates classes. It was at this point that she decided to focus her career away from mainstream fitness and began her Pilates teacher training with Body Control Pilates (BCP) in the UK.
Once qualified, Keely worked for several years at BCP’s London based studio and was fortunate to gain experience working with some of London’s most renowned classically trained Pilates instructors. During this time an interest in Sports Psychology also motivated her to go to back to study where she completed a BSc in Psychology.
Keely relocated to Brisbane with her husband in 2004 working for many years at various Brisbane Physio and Pilates Studios while also navigating her new role as a mum to two energetic boys!
In 2011, she completed the Diploma of Studio Pilates with Polestar Pilates Australia. Once qualified she was invited to join the Polestar Pilates mentor program and in 2016 moved into the role of Educator. Keely continues to work in this role and alongside students as they prepare for a career in Pilates. This is an aspect of her work that she considers a privilege and finds very rewarding, believing that sharing knowledge is the key to continued learning.
Having enjoyed the benefits of Pilates to improve her own movement and longevity in various sporting pursuits, her aim as a teacher is to share her knowledge with clients, assisting them in achieving and experiencing better movement so that they can incorporate what they learn in the Pilates studio into their own lifestyle and other training disciplines.
Keely works primarily at her studio, Pilates Box Wooloowin, as well teaching corporate classes and educational workshops and she continues to enjoy participating in sports such as cycling, triathlon and running.
